The higher bus speed that enables USB 3 support also allows the on-board Ethernet port to support true Gigabit connections (125 MBps) where the last-gen models had a theoretical maximum of just 41 MBps. The most important new features are the faster processor, a 1.5-GHz Broadcom CPU and GPU, more and faster RAM, the addition of USB 3 ports, dual micro HDMI ports (instead of a single HDMI connection) and support for 4K output. If all you’re doing with your Pi is running a security camera or playing old arcade games, you might be able to stick with what you have, but you’ll definitely want a Pi 4 for future projects. The newer platform has a number of distinctive advantages, including speeds that are two to four times faster, support for USB 3 and true Gigabit Ethernet and dual video output with resolutions up to 4K. However, if you’re looking for an all-around, general purpose Raspberry Pi, there’s no doubt that it’s the Raspberry Pi 4, which goes by the official model name of Raspberry Pi 4 B (there’s no 4 A, so the B is superfluous).īut let’s say you already own a Raspberry Pi 3 or an earlier model and are wondering if you should also get a Raspberry Pi 4. But choosing which Raspberry Pi to buy is an open question because there are reasons you might want to get a different model, such as the $5 Raspberry Pi Zero. If your disk drives are fast enough and wifi signal is good enough you can then stream via Chromecast.Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (Image credit: Tom's Hardware)Įlsewhere, we've outlined extensively why every tech geek should own a Raspberry Pi.

I have a Hauppauge HD PVR and record to a pc using win 7 ultimate media center via that box connected to the output from the STB and controlling the Fios STB via the box IR blaster that is being programmed via the Fios Tv guide loaded into ultimate. I've used with SnapStream for years and also works fine with MS media center I assume your method works but mine below also works using an STB. OR if it was me I would just save up my money and buy a slingbox and then I could watch all my TV on any computer anywhere I had internet connection. it is just a basic video output so you would just be able to do video capture to a computer or something. But if you are trying to connect the verizon box to your computer. what you need is a cable card from Verizon (an M card) and a device in your computer that can read cable cards and then it will work wonderfully with WMC. You CAN watch live TV on a computer, what people don't understand is that in order to do that you need to remove the Verizon STB out of the equation.

Thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter.

I'm thinking that sticking with DirecTV and Windows 7 MCE might be my best option but.

I'm not interested in editing premium movie channel content, just the run-of-the-mill 'regular' content like local channels and NBC Sports, ESPN, beIN Sport channels.įYI, I also have OTA programming hooked up to the TV Tuner in the PC and am able to record/edit programming with no issues whatsoever. So, before I blow upwards of $300, with your InfiniTV, Windows 7(?) MCE and FIOS setup are you able to edit MCE DVR content recorded from FIOS TV?
